He allegedly threatened to kill his ex and her new boyfriend if she refused to have sex with him.
Many people have dealt with crazy exes at least once in their life. Some of these exes either threaten to hurt themselves, or hurt their exes if they do not get back together. The number of ”threat to kill or injure” cases has gradually increased in the past years, with many perpetrators successfully carrying out the crime.
Offenders are increasingly using social media and text messages to convey threats, just like in many cases in the Philippines. While there are those who fail to carry out the crime due to fear of going to jail, there are people, mostly men, who just might really do what they threaten others with. One woman from General Santos City was too scared of her ex-boyfriend that she decided to report him to the police.
According to Kathleen (not her real name), she broke up with the 20-year-old suspect as he became increasingly jealous.
“Nakita man gud niya na naa na koy uyab, mao tong kada pag-uli na lang sa trabahuan magtxt na siya na patyon lagi daw mi niya. ako ug akong uyab kung dili ko makipag-sex niya,” the victim said.
(He saw that I already had a new boyfriend. Every time I come home from work, he would text me. He threatened to kill me and my boyfriend if I refused to have sex with him.)
The National Bureau of Investigation conducted an entrapment operation, the suspect was caught red-handed with his ex at a lodge in Barangay Lagao.
Authorities had the text evidence in their hands. However, when asked about the accusations, the man gave a short answer:
“Di ko magagawa ‘yan. Mahal na mahal ko siya (I won’t do that, I love her very much),” the suspect said. He is now facing charges of violating the Violence Against Women and Children Act.
