Autistic Girl Takes the Internet by Storm With her Rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”

She is the quiet type, but when she starts singing, she opens up!

An autistic girl from Killard House School in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland is now an internet sensation, after her teacher uploaded her video singing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

“She’d be a very quiet little girl, but when she sings, she just opens up,” stated Colin Millar, Kaylee’s principal. “She gets so much confidence from singing. All my kids have talents, as well as barriers, and this is hers.”

Kaylee Rodgers, a student who is on the autism spectrum and has attention-deficit-disorder, was the quiet type, but when she starts singing, she opens up.

Kayleigh also often sings at the local Christmas concert at the First Presbyterian Church in Newtownards, but this year she lost her voice and had to pull out. But since her teacher wanted to share her talent with the world, her teacher uploaded this video to social media, which immediately gained attention and praise from netizens.

What is Autism?

According to autismspeaks, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
